Valley of Fire

So off we go and our first stop is Valley of Fire, just 80 miles North of Las Vegas.

Tommy's mom Helen is giving us a great send off by driving out there with us and showing us how to operate this high tech ship. Or maybe she wanted to make sure we're not accidentally driving off the first cliff we encounter. Either way after spending all day with us, she returned to Vegas. Now we're alone....surrounded by beautiful red rocks and tons of germans...why are german tourists everywhere in all the national parks. Well I guess the same reason we're here. Its just stunningly beautiful. Ahhhh this is just the first day and we have two entire months ahead of us.

  1. Hi, just reading through your back posts after finding your site through Gigantor and the Whale. The comment about Germans made me laugh as we have found much the same thing. For a while there every time we saw a rental RV go by we would say, "look, Germans!". Now of course we've realized that there are just lots of foreign tourists in the parks. At Zion we would have bet it was 75% or so of people we passed on the trail. Certainly a great thing and happy to have them here but its definitely remarkable. We had no clue!

  2. haha thanks Brent. It's funny, Danielle was telling me just this morning about your blog. Like you, we found your site through Gigantor and the Whale's blog. We've called our rv the 'Desert Elephant' since the beginning so we thought it was funny that yours is called Horton.

Danielle is actually German, she's been here for 10 years. So she handles them for us. I saw on your blog you got to see 3 of them skinny dipping. Danielle thought that was funny, 'typical Germans' was her response.

    Nice to meet you,
    Tommy
